讲座主题:Digital rock physics, Continuous monitoring, and machine learning for safe and effective Carbon Capture and Storage

To achieve safe and effective CO2 geological storage, we try to study CO2 behaviors at a wide range of scales (i.e., from molecular-scale to field-scale). In molecular scale, we mainly evaluate the CO2 mineralization process via molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. In the pore scale, we use digital rock physics to evaluate hydraulic/elastic/electric properties of the digitalized rock models at many reservoir conditions. In the field scale, we have developed a continuous monitoring system for storage CO2 based on a minimal seismic source system as well as DAS. In this presentation, we show some highlighted achievements from the CO2 investigation at a wide range of scales.

Prof. Takeshi Tsuji

The University of Tokyo

Takeshi Tsuji is a Professor in the Department of Systems Innovation at the School of Energy, University of Tokyo.Takeshi Tsuji uses a variety of geophysical and geodetic methods (e.g. seismic, electromagnetic, gravity and SAR) to image subsurface structures and monitor their dynamic behaviour. He is also interested in modelling the behaviour of geodynamics. He received several honours including the West Japan Culture Award in 2020 and the Young Professional Scientist Award from IUGG in 2018. Geophysical exploration of the Earth and planets is accelerating due to recent technological breakthroughs. This is being achieved through the development of advanced exploration equipment and methods applied to various engineering fields (e.g. CO2 storage and geothermal) and scientific fields (earthquakes and volcanoes). He currently has over 170 publications and nearly 500 citations.
